The film A Wrinkle in Time tells the story of a young girl’s journey towards self-empowerment, becoming a hero for not only herself but her family. And, as Bernie Casey told us in the film I’m Gon Get You Sucka, every hero needs theme music. Luckily, Chloe x Halle created the perfect anthem for film’s soundtrack, “Warrior.”On "Warrior," Chloe X Halle let us we don’t need to worry about a thing because they are warriors. Though life hasn’t always been easy, they’ll find a way. Triumphantly and self-assuredly, the ladies sing, “Almost there, overcome my fear / I'll save the light in our lives /Just look deep inside to find you and I / Like stars in the sky will brighten the light.” It’s an inspirational message that doesn’t seem preachy or generic. In the video for “Warrior,” directed by Matthew A. Cherry, the sisters are traveling in an elevator to a party. However, when the elevators doors open on each floor, we’re surprised by a new visual treat. One scene is of old television sets stacked on each other showing scenes from the movie. The next is a floral motif with the star of the film, Storm Reid. Finally, we see a crowded elevator full of young adults jumping for joy before spilling out to their final stop. In between stops, we get a few sneak peeks at the film. “Warrior” will be featured on not only the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack but Chloe x Halle’s debut album, The Kids Are Alright, to be released on March 23rd.The A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack is shaping up to be as beautiful and empowering as the film. Featuring songs such as DJ Khaled and Demi Lovato's “I Believe,” Kehlani's “Let Me Live” and the new track by the one and only Sade, “Flower of the Universe,” the music is giving us all the feels.
