Warner Bros. has officially unveiled the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald online, following the release of yesterday’s #WandsReady announcement teaser.

The sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them picks up with magizoologist Newt Scamander as he undertakes a book tour to promote his newly-published Fantastic Beasts manual. However, Newt’s trip gets put on the back-burner when the eponymous dark wizard escapes custody, having been arrested by the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) in the first film. Newt is thus called on by his former Hogwarts teacher Albus Dumbledore to help bring the villain to justice. Elsewhere, Newt’s friends from across the pond (Jacob Kowalski, Tina and Queenie Goldstein) are pulled into an unexpected adventure yet again, when Grindelwald flees the U.S. to resume his quest to pick up new followers across Europe.

J.K Rowling once again wrote Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, with David Yates also returning to direct his sixth Wizarding World film to date. Eddie Redmayne (Newt), Katherine Waterston (Tina), Dan Fogler (Jacob), Alison Sudol (Queenie), and Johnny Depp (Grindelwald) are likewise reprising their Fantastic Beasts roles in the sequel, with Jude Law joining them as Dumbledore. Watch the Crimes of Grindelwald trailer in the space above for a sneak peek at the film’s cast in action, then check out the movie’s poster below.

Crimes of Grindelwald will payoff the setup from the first Fantastic Beasts by introducing a key figure from Newt’s past, in the form of his former schoolmate/friend/possible ex Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz). The film will further expand the mythology of the Harry Potter series and the Wizarding World at large by including another key character in the form of Nicolas Flamel (Brontis Jodorowsky), the maker of the Sorcerer’s Stone; or, if you prefer, the Philosopher’s Stone. For now, Flamel’s role in the story here remains something of an enigma.

The plan is for all five Fantastic Beasts movies to take place in different cities, with Crimes of Grindelwald set largely in Paris circa 1927. Crimes of Grindelwald further aims to be better than the first Fantastic Beasts by embracing a “thriller quality” and moving away from that film’s more whimsical elements. So far, however, much of the discussion around the sequel has focused on the controversial decision to keep Depp as Grindelwald, as well as the revelation that Dumbledore’s homosexuality won’t be “explicitly referenced” in the movie. Whether or not that changes following the trailer’s release, remains to be seen.
